Instructional Student Assistant (ISA) for the Department of Kinesiology

Position Overview:

The Department of Kinesiology is seeking Instructional Student Assistant (ISA) applicants.

The department reserves the right to choose the most qualified candidate for each position and to assign Instructional Student Assistant to the courses that are appropriate for the department program and curriculum in any given semester. Due to staff and curriculum changes, courses offered may vary, and no guarantee of employment from semester to semester can be made.

Anticipated Appointment Dates:
This position is opened until filled. If you have applied and no other positions are available, you will be notified.

  • Fall 2026:
    August 19, 2026 - December 22, 2026; anticipated start date is August 19th
  • Spring 2027:
    January 15, 2027 - May 22, 2027; anticipated start date is January 15th

Hours:

0-20 hours per week.

Job Duties may include the following, but will be dependent upon the specific course to which the instructional student assistant will be assigned, as well as upon the specific needs of the faculty member in charge of the course:

  • Read and evaluate student papers
  • Evaluate student assignments
  • Maintain/Submit students records (i.e., grades)
  • Proctor examinations
  • Manage Canvas
  • Assist Graduate Program Coordinator with outreach, communications, etc. related to student recruitment and acceptance
  • Assist Human Performance Lab Director and/or Exercise Science faculty with activities and equipment specific to the Human Performance Lab

Qualifications:

  • Admission to the Graduate Program in the Department of Kinesiology, in good academic standing.
  • Minimum GPA 3.0
  • Must have completed course in which opening exists
  • Enrollment in at least 6-units for the semester or in two courses toward the degree.
  • Demonstrated, satisfactory progress towards the degree.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic background,
  • Communication skills appropriate to the instructional setting
  • Ability and willingness to work with computers including common word-processing software, and computer and Internet-based language teaching technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a closely-related discipline

It should contain your contact information, your employment and educational history, skills such as computer programming, familiarity with commonly used computer programs, as well as internships, awards, volunteer service, training and any other experience you have that is relevant to education.
  • Current unofficial transcripts from your undergraduate and graduate education. If you have attended more than one institution, please copy and combine these transcripts into one document.

    Instruction Student Assistant additional information regarding assignment:

    • Evaluations: ISA's may be evaluated per CBA, Unit 11, Article 8
    • Salary:
      Each department has different salary scales. Please check with your department for your Base Salary. The Salary range for Instructional Student Assistants starts at $16.20 per an hour.
    • Assignments:
      Assignments are made by Department Chair or Program Coordinator after consultation with the candidate.
    • Duties Form:
      Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Unit 11, a Duties Form (see Appendix E of the CBA) will be completed between the Department and Academic Student Employee. This form substantiates the jobs included for the department Instructional Student Assistant position.
    • Instructional Student Assistant positions are for matriculated students at Fresno State.
    • Students are limited to 20-hours of part-time work on campus.
