The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of a curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
Reporting to the Director of Student Success Programs, EOPS/CARE and NextUP at Fresno City College; counselor will cover a full range of EOPS counseling responsibilities including academic, career, transfer and personal counseling to a diverse student population. The successful candidate for the EOPS counselor position will be responsible for:
- Providing comprehensive counseling services, including personal, career and educational counseling to individuals and groups, and orientation and transfer counseling services;
- Assisting students in major selection, developing student education plans (SEPs), and facilitating career exploration and transfer program activities related to their educational goals and career pathways;
- Counseling students on certificate, vocational, associate degree, and transfer programs;
- Meeting the special counseling needs of underrepresented student populations;
- Interpreting career assessment results and advising for appropriate course scheduling;
- Participating in the enrollment, retention, and transfer of EOPS students disadvantaged by language, social, economic and educational opportunities;
- Assisting in the organization and implementation of matriculation activities, such as EOPS orientations, assessment, counseling and follow‑up services;
- Participating in Progress Monitoring activities and student follow‑up with faculty and referral to on‑campus resources/student support services;
- Teaching counseling courses such as career planning, college and life management, academic success, and college introduction;
