Temporary Faculty Pool – Lecturer in Chicano and Latin American Studies

Department Overview

The department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses such as Intro to Chicano Studies, Chicano Artistic Expression, and other courses identified as needed throughout the semester.

Instructor Responsibilities
  • Adhere to and implement university and system-wide policies as outlined in Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2.
  • Prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and exams.
  • Ensure all classes are offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
Conditional Appointment

An appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between CSU and the California Faculty Association. The order of work begins with tenure‑line faculty and ends with new lecturer appointees.

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the CSU salary range for Academic Year Lecturers (Class Code = 2358). For a Master’s degree the monthly salary ranges from $5,507 to $6,677 for full‑time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually near the minimum of the range and are adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.

Anticipated Semester
  • Fall 2026:
    August 19 – December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027:
    January 15 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies, Chicanx Studies, Latinx Studies, Multicultural Education, Latin American Studies (with an emphasis in Literature, Art, or Gender Studies) or a closely related field.

  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, and evidence of prior teaching experience and evaluations.
  • Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience with online and hybrid instruction.
