Position Summary
The Department of Biology seeks qualified temporary faculty to teach undergraduate courses and/or labs in biology, including courses such as:
BIOL 131:
Parasitology, BIOL 132:
General Entomology, BIOL 157:
Immunology, BIOL 158:
Cancer Biology, BIOL 161:
Plant Physiology, and other high‑enrollment general‑education courses as needed.
Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to university policies and for the full preparation, delivery, and assessment of courses. Duties include lecture preparation, classroom teaching, office hours, homework grading, quizzes, projects, and midterm/final exams scheduled in the semester plan, whether asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid.
Appointment & EligibilityAppointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment, arising from the CSU collective bargaining agreement. Applicants must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States; the institution does not sponsor visas for temporary faculty.
CompensationSalary is commensurate with qualifications. For faculty holding a Master’s in Biology, the monthly range is $5,507–$6,677 for full‑time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are normally near the minimum. Adjustments occur based on WTUs assigned per term.
Semester AvailabilityThe temporary faculty pool is open for two academic terms:
Fall 2026 (August 19 – December 22) and Spring 2027 (January 15 – May 26). Positions are filled as needed, with candidates often required to start teaching on short notice. The pool will remain open until positions are filled.

Master’s degree in Biology from an accredited institution. - Experience:
Demonstrated commitment to excellence, diversity, and accessibility; successful undergraduate teaching experience.
- Education:
Ph.D. in a biology‑related field or equivalent industry/clinical/private‑sector experience. - Experience:
Commitment to diversity and effective collaboration with faculty, staff, and students; successful teaching at undergraduate and/or graduate level; expertise in a closely‑related discipline.
