The Asian American Studies Program has a four‑decade history in the Department of Anthropology and is a valued part of the Department and University. Over 15% of the Fresno State student body are Asian American and Pacific Islander. The Program offers a minor and a new major (2026‑27) focused on the history and contemporary experiences of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

Courses explore local and ethnic history, trans‑Pacific contact, cultural change and adaptation, and interethnic relations.

Instructor Responsibility

Temporary faculty members must adhere to and implement university and system‑wide policies. They are responsible for the preparation, delivery, conduct, proctoring, and grading of lectures, office hours, homework, quizzes, projects, and exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester, in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).

Conditional Appointment

Appointment is contingent on budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement. The order of work starts with tenure‑track faculty and ends with new lecturer appointees.

Compensation

Pay is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the established salary range (Class Code = 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). For a Master’s degree, the monthly range is $5,507–$6,677 for a full‑time load (15 WTUs). Actual salary is adjusted based on WTUs assigned per term.

Anticipated Semester

The pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed. Appointments are typically made just before the start of the academic term.

  • Fall 2026:
    August 19 2026 – December 22 2026
  • Spring 2027:
    January 15 2027 – May 26 2027
Required Qualifications

Education:

A Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies or a closely related field, with an emphasis in Asian American Studies.

Experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, demonstrated through teaching experience and evaluations or other evidence.
  • Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
