Overview
The Fresno County Department of Public Works and Planning invites applications for the position of Engineer I. Incumbents are assigned to various programs including:
Construction Management, Design, Development Services & Capital Projects, Road Maintenance & Operations, Resources, and Water & Natural Resources/Community Development. The current vacancies exist in the Construction Management, Design, and Road Maintenance & Operations divisions. For vacancies in the Construction Management and Design Divisions, a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is preferred. Permanent status may not be obtained in this classification.
Incumbents must advance to the Engineer II classification within two (2) years from the date of initial employment or be rejected during the provisional appointment.

Education and RegistrationEducation:
Possession of a bachelors degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, or Structural Engineering or a closely related field that is acceptable within the United States accredited college or university system. Registration:
Valid certification as an Engineer-in-Training issued by the State of California, Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
License:
Possession of a valid Class C driver s license, or equivalent, may be required.

- A copy of your degree or transcripts that verify possession of the required education; unofficial transcripts are acceptable. If education was completed outside the United States accredited college or university system, documentation that the education is comparable to that received within the United States system must be provided by the closing date and time of this recruitment.

Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.

- The eligible list for this recruitment may be extended up to 12 months, and may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions.
- Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.
Positions in this classification are in Medical Group III - Heavy Physical Activity (Personnel Rule
8). This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds. Generally, considerable bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved. Physical stamina is usually required and explosive strength using bursts of energy may be required, depending upon specific position assignments.
