Verdantas is seeking a Scientist I to support our Environmental and Stormwater team across the Sacramento, Fresno, Marysville, and San Ramon, CA areas. This position is local to project sites and offers a hybrid work environment, combining field-based work with remote flexibility.
This is an entry‑level stormwater professional role and is a great fit for someone who is eager to learn, grow, and contribute within a collaborative environment while making a positive impact on the environment.
What You’ll Do- Support environmental and stormwater compliance projects
- Conduct stormwater inspections and field evaluations
- Develop and implement Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs)
- Perform stormwater sampling and site monitoring activities
- Complete desktop evaluations and site assessments
- Provide on‑site training and guidance to construction crews
- Prepare documentation, reporting, and compliance records
- Assist clients with regulatory compliance and pollution prevention efforts
- Collaborate with internal teams on routine and complex projects
- Support additional initiatives and special projects as assigned
- Travel to project sites, including occasional overnight travel and extended hours as needed
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field
0-2 years of experience in stormwater compliance or SWPPP-related work
Knowledge of stormwater regulations, water quality practices, and environmental compliance
Experience with inspection, sampling, and reporting processes
Familiarity with erosion control, site stabilization, and restoration practices
Understanding of California stormwater regulations and permitting (preferred)
Strong communication skills and ability to train field teams
Proficiency in documentation and compliance tracking systems
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites
QSP/QSD certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
Additional certifications (CESSWI, CPESC, CPSWQ, QISP, PE, PG)
Experience with SMARTS and California Construction General Permit
Exposure to environmental permitting or natural resources work
Familiarity with industry tools such as ArcGIS
$50,000.00 - $60,000.00
