Senior Engineering Technician (Open Until Filled)

CITY OF FRESNO, CA

Senior Engineering Technicians perform complex, highly technical engineering work and provide lead direction to support level personnel. In the Public Works and Public Utilities division, incumbents will handle project design and management for a range of capital improvement projects, including streets, traffic signals, ITS, water, wastewater, and recycled water systems.

The role may include:

• Project scoping, cost estimating, and research of utilities.
• Coordinating with survey staff for easements, right‑of‑way, and as‑built/topo data.
• Preparing construction plans and specifications.
• Providing construction support on job sites in all weather conditions.
• Using Microsoft Office extensively and communicating effectively orally and in writing.

• 24 units of college‑level coursework in engineering, geometry, trigonometry, drafting, surveying, or a related field.
• Two (2) years of experience equivalent to that of an Engineering Technician II with the City of Fresno.
• Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
• For experience‑only qualifications: three (3) years of increasingly responsible construction or technical engineering work; four (4) years if qualifying solely with experience.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintenance thereof during employment.
• Successful completion of a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint process prior to employment.

The examination may include:

• Written exam focusing on surveying, automated drafting, subdivision maps, engineering terminology, trigonometry, geometry, report writing, lead direction, engineering computations, and interpersonal judgment.
