Job Description

WSP is searching for a POWER Testing and Energization (PTE) Lead P&C Technician Field Services for project locations in Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. Successful applicants will support our PTE Team in electrical testing and commissioning of utility substations, industrial, and bulk electrical power systems.

Opportunity
  • Lead field operations for complex construction, environmental, and infrastructure projects by providing expert technical guidance, hands‑on execution, and oversight of day‑to‑day site activities.
  • Apply extensive field experience to support site activities, troubleshoot challenges, and uphold quality and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with engineers, scientists, and subcontractors to ensure efficient task delivery in compliance with regulatory and client requirements.
  • Support project delivery by mentoring technicians, managing site logistics, and facilitating communication between field crews and project leadership.
Your Impact
  • Perform testing and commissioning of Protection and Control systems on high‑voltage substations.
  • Conduct on‑site protective relay testing using relay test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150 (e.g., SEL‑311L, SEL‑387, SEL‑487).
  • Execute and validate advanced protection and control testing sequences per test plans, standards, and client specifications.
  • Follow safety protocols and participate in daily safety briefings and hazard assessments.
  • Use field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications to document site activities.
  • Perform equipment cleaning, inventory control, and calibration as directed.
  • Act as primary field liaison with clients, contractors, vendors, and project managers.
  • Apply expert knowledge of field instrumentation and troubleshoot technical issues with minimal supervision.
  • Lead field implementation of health and safety protocols, job hazard analyses, and quality control procedures.
  • Lead field crews, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and ensuring consistency.
  • Mentor junior and mid‑level technicians in safety practices and documentation.
  • Support corrective actions by troubleshooting equipment or procedural issues and identifying solutions.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with safety plans, environmental controls, and work quality expectations.
  • Plan field readiness, including tool inspection, site access coordination, utility marking, and weather contingency measures.
  • Participate in pre‑construction meetings, regulatory inspections, and client walkthroughs as senior field representative.
  • Ensure accurate data collection, reporting, and integration with project systems.
  • Maintain oversight of fleet vehicles, tools, materials, and inventory to support productivity.
  • Contribute technical expertise to incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a strong safety culture and encourage proactive hazard recognition and reporting.
  • Demonstrate responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 11 years of experience in electrical testing, including medium and high‑voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing.
  • Demonstrable expertise on transmission, generation, or distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, GE families) and protective schemes.
  • Advanced technical skills with protective relays, including calibration with test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, control scheme testing, CT/PT circuit testing, uploading settings to microprocessor relays, and static & dynamic testing of microprocessor‑based relays.
  • Proven experience with electrical field testing standards and practices such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA applicable standards.
  • Expert knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects at 15 kV to 500 kV.
  • Strong understanding of technical software for testing and data review:
    ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator Quickset.
