Production Engineer
Job Description
The Production Engineer designs, implements, and optimizes industrial processes to improve efficiency, quality, and safety while creating custom truck components from scratch based on customer specifications. This role focuses on mechanical and manufacturing engineering, taking projects from initial concept through full-scale production and ensuring robust, reliable designs that perform effectively in the field.
Responsibilities
* Design truck components and custom equipment from scratch based on detailed customer specifications.
* Develop and optimize industrial and manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
* Create and modify 3D models and engineering drawings using Solid Works for new mechanical designs.
* Design hydraulic systems and components that integrate effectively with overall vehicle and equipment designs.
* Collaborate with operations teams and customers to define requirements and translate them into practical engineering solutions.
* Support projects from concept through manufacturing, including design reviews and production readiness activities.
* Apply lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement principles to enhance production processes.
* Troubleshoot mechanical and process issues in production and implement effective corrective actions.
* Coordinate with machining and production personnel to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
* Manage engineering tasks and project activities to meet timelines and deliverables.
* Contribute to process engineering initiatives that improve throughput, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
* Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and best practices within the automotive and industrial equipment sectors.
Essential Skills
* Minimum 2 years of experience using Solid Works to create new mechanical designs and detailed models.
* Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, working with production and manufacturing processes.
* Strong exposure in mechanical engineering and mechanical design, particularly for industrial or automotive applications.
* Hands-on experience designing hydraulic systems and components.
* Proficiency in CAD tools, with Solid Works as a primary design platform.
* Experience with process improvement and continuous improvement in a production setting.
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and their application to industrial processes.
* Understanding of machining processes and manufacturability considerations for mechanical components.
* Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and process issues and develop practical engineering solutions.
* Experience in process engineering and production engineering within an industrial or automotive environment.
* Project management skills sufficient to coordinate engineering tasks and meet project deadlines.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field preferred but not required.
* Familiarity with Six Sigma methodologies and tools for process improvement.
* Experience in the automotive industry or with automotive-related components and systems.
* Experience in manufacturing engineering and production operations.
* Strong communication skills for direct interaction with customers and cross-functional teams.
* Ability to work on projects from concept through manufacturing and field deployment.
* Interest in seeing designs progress through fabrication, assembly, and real-world operation.
* Comfort working in a highly visible role with direct impact on finished products and customer outcomes.
Work Environment
This is primarily an office-based engineering role with regular collaboration with operations and production teams. Work is focused on designing custom equipment rather than highly repetitive products, offering variety and technical challenge. The engineer follows projects from concept through manufacturing and may have opportunities to visit the shop floor or field sites to see designs built and operating. The environment values direct customer interaction, cross-functional teamwork, and continuous improvement, with a strong emphasis…
