Compensation: $175,000 – $225,000 annually (DOE)
Position SummaryThe Director of Tax is responsible for leading and overseeing all tax planning, compliance, and reporting activities for a multi-entity organization operating across packing, farming, and real estate business segments. This role manages both cash and accrual basis taxpayers and supports multiple ownership structures. The Director of Tax will lead a small in-house tax team, coordinate with external advisors, and serve as a strategic partner in managing risk and optimizing tax outcomes for the organization and its stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage all tax functions, including income, property, sales/use, and other applicable taxes.
- Oversee the preparation and review of federal and state tax returns for corporations, partnerships, LLCs, and individuals.
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies aligned with business operations and long-term objectives.
- Provide strategic tax support for estate and succession planning initiatives.
- Drive continuous process improvement through the use of modern tax and accounting technologies, including workflow automation, data analytics, and reporting dashboards.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable tax regulations and filing deadlines.
- Monitor regulatory changes and proactively assess potential business impacts.
- Provide tax guidance on business transactions, including entity restructuring, acquisitions, and real estate development.
- Coordinate and manage relationships with external tax advisors, consultants, and auditors.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop tax staff to ensure high performance and professional growth.
- Collaborate closely with finance, legal, and operations teams on tax-related matters.
- Support the CFO with tax provision, financial reporting, and related disclosures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s in Taxation preferred).
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive tax experience, including at least 2 years at the manager level in public accounting or a private organization.
- Strong experience with entity-level and individual tax compliance and planning.
- Demonstrated expertise with both cash and accrual basis taxpayers.
- Thorough understanding of FAS 109 and tax provision processes.
- Experience with in agriculture and/or real estate industries is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Valid California driver’s license and clean driving record may be required.
