Department of Forestry & Fire Protection
Defensible Space Inspector (Forestry Aide)Salary: $3,744.00 – $4,630.00 per month.
Position Type:
Non‑Tenured, Full‑Time – temporary; maximum 9 months.
Location:
United States (specific address omitted for brevity).
- Perform defensible space inspections in accordance with Public Resources Code Section 4291.
- Interact with the public to provide fire‑prevention information.
- Increase awareness and promote actions to reduce human loss and property damage from wildfires, including defensible space and other fuel‑reduction activities.
- Support field work that may require running, walking, climbing, jumping, twisting, bending and lifting over 25 pounds.
Applicants must meet one of the following options:
- Education: Completion of at least 12 semester units or 18 quarter units from a recognized accredited college or university in forestry or fire science, natural resource management, conservation, or a closely related subject.
- Experience: Three (3) months of experience with public or private entities performing sub‑professional work in forestry, fire prevention, fire suppression and control, natural resource management, or other related work.
- Valid California driver’s license (preferred).
- Prior experience in wildfire mitigation activities.
- Must wear respiratory protection equipment, including self‑contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
- Required to undergo annual medical clearance for respiratory protection equipment.
- Field work may involve strenuous activities under adverse environmental conditions.
