Monthly Salary Range

$5,718 – $6,876/month

Planning and Development focuses on both public and private property development throughout the city, as well as the sustainable management of our land and water resources and public infrastructure. Under close supervision, Plans and Permit Technicians perform a wide variety of technical and clerical duties such as receiving, logging, and distributing building plans and applications;

calculates appropriate fees; checks plans and issues building permits for minor residential additions and alterations. Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Receives application submittals at public counter for one-trade express permits such as re-roofs, electrical, mechanical and plumbing.
• Calculates plan check review and permit fees based on applicable standards, including construction type, square footage, and project valuation.
• Maintains, updates, organizes and file building plans, permits, and related documentation.
• Reviews building plans and issues building permits for minor residential additions and alterations in accordance with applicable codes, standard details and approved design aids.
• Responds to public inquiries regarding status of submitted projects and provides general information related to permitting processes, requirements and procedures.
• Establishes positive working relationships with the public contractors, developers, state/local agencies and associations, City management and staff.
• Coordinates the routing and review of building plans and documents with other City departments and divisions as needed to facilitate the permitting process.

One vacancy currently exists in the Planning and Development Department. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period for up to a maximum of two years at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.
