Position:
Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S) Manager. The EH&S Manager is responsible for managing health, safety, environmental compliance, and risk for select jobsites and company operations. This role plans, directs, and implements the Company’s Health, Safety and Environmental Programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible work environment.
Supports field operations to ensure construction activities are conducted safely and in compliance with applicable Cal/OSHA, OSHA, Cal/EPA, RWQCB, Air District, and local regulations. Sets the tone for jobsite health, environmental stewardship, risk management, accountability, and regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesSafety Oversight
- Oversee field operations to keep jobsites hazard- and incident-free through routine safety inspections and audits
- Support field staff during Cal/OSHA or other regulatory inspections
- Record, compile, and analyze safety data; update logs; monitor equipment and maintenance using safety software
- Ensure daily tailgate meetings are conducted, documented, and entered into the safety management system
- Develop, review, and enforce Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and ensure they are posted, communicated, and followed at all active work locations
Risk Management
- Provide recommendations and support to Project Managers and Superintendents regarding jobsite hazards, employee training, equipment operation, and safe material use
- Ensure compliance with the Company’s Workers’ Compensation Program, including coordination with internal teams and third-party administrators
- Lead investigations of accidents, near misses, injuries, environmental incidents, and unsafe conditions; recommend corrective and preventive actions
- Stay current on federal, state, county, and local safety and environmental regulations and advise management of regulatory changes and impacts
Training
- Plan and implement safety and environmental training programs for employees and management, including hazard recognition, equipment operation, spill prevention, and emergency response
- Facilitate First Aid and CPR training and maintain training records
- Conduct new-hire orientations, ensuring employees receive safety and environmental instructions prior to beginning work
- Provide ongoing training as required by OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and environmental regulations
Environmental Compliance
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including SWPPP, SPCC, hazardous materials and waste management, dust control, and fuel handling procedures
- Conduct routine environmental inspections to verify SWPPP compliance, erosion and sediment controls, spill kits, and housekeeping standards
- Coordinate environmental incident response, spill reporting, and corrective actions per regulatory requirements and Company procedures
- Assist with permit compliance related to stormwater, grading, trenching, and earthwork activities
- Support Project Managers and Superintendents in implementing environmental controls and BMPs at jobsites
- Maintain environmental documentation, inspection logs, and corrective action records
- Promote environmental awareness and stewardship among field personnel and subcontractors
Compliance
- Support field in reviewing and enforcing subcontractor Safety and Environmental Programs
- Implement project-specific safety and environmental plans in compliance with applicable regulations, including SDS, hazardous materials handling, and environmental controls
- Assist with internal and external audits related to safety and environmental compliance
Support
- Foster positive working relationships with clients, subcontractors, coworkers, and management
- Maintain frequent communication with Onsite Construction Managers, Superintendents, and Operations Leadership regarding safety and environmental matters
- CSP or CHST preferred
- OSHA 30 Construction
- CPR/First Aid Trainer
- Knowledge of California environmental regulations (SWPPP, SPCC, BMPs) strongly preferred
- QSP or QSD preferred
- Autodesk software knowledge a plus
