Location: Fresno, CA
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt / Hourly
Hourly Compensation Range: $29.00 – $37.00
(Compensation is based on years of relevant experience and skillset level.)
The Lead Machinist – 2nd Shift serves as the technical lead for second shift machining operations. Under the direction of the Machine Shop Supervisor, this role is responsible for setting up and operating manual and/or CNC machining equipment, supporting production activities, and providing guidance and training to machinists to ensure safety, quality, and productivity standards are met.
Responsibilities- Act as the on-shift technical lead for 2nd shift machining operations
- Set up and operate manual and/or CNC equipment, including engine lathes, vertical turret lathes, mills, radial drill presses, and related machine tools
- Demonstrate proficiency in at least three (3) machining work cells
- Plan and sequence machining operations using blueprints, drawings, and specifications
- Machine parts to required quality standards with minimal defects and identify potential quality issues
- Perform development and experimental machining work per design requirements
- Train and support junior machinists within mastered work cells
- Identify and report equipment, material, or process issues to supervision
- Replace cutting tools and perform routine machine adjustments as required
- Ensure all parts are properly deburred prior to inspection or next operation
- Assist with accurate timekeeping and labor reporting (direct and indirect)
- Operate auxiliary equipment such as forklifts, saws, and torches as needed
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
- Comply with all company policies, safety standards, and ISO 9001/14001 requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Machinist
Technical machinist certification or equivalent experience
Advanced blueprint reading and interpretation skills
Advanced machining measurement and inspection tooling skills
Knowledge of machining processes and metal properties
Strong attention to quality and defect prevention
Ability to lead and train employees in a production environment
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
The noise level in the work environment varies. PPE including safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and hearing protection may be required.
