Licensed Vocational Nurse (Safety). Incumbents work under general supervision of a Registered Nurse or Senior Psychiatric Technician and, in addition to their responsibilities, provide a basic level of general fundamental nursing care and are expected through their attitude, knowledge, and performance to facilitate the adherence of treatment programs of patients.
The position is permanent/intermittent and is within the Internal Registry. The Registry consists of Permanent Intermittent employees (PIE) who are available to work as needed (potential float capacity). Employees may be moved to another work location during their shift according to facility needs.
Permanent intermittent employees may not work more than 1,500 hours in any calendar year unless approved by the Central Staffing Office (CSO) Administrator/designee, Executive Director and DSH‑Sacramento Human Resources and authorized by Cal‑HR. In accepting employment as an intermittent employee, the employee agrees to comply with the minimum work requirements and scheduling parameters described in the attached Duty Statement.
Hourly Rate: $29.32 min - $36.70 max.
Compensation & BenefitsAll state civil service employees are subject to a mandatory Personal Leave Program (PLP). The PLP program reduces the monthly gross salary but provides paid leave options (PLO) leave credits in lieu of pay. The salary reduction for this position is 3% of the base salary identified above, and the employee will accrue 5 hours of PLP each qualifying pay period.
Employees with time bases that are less than full‑time will receive a prorated accrual of PLP based on hours worked during the pay period. PLP salary reduction and leave accruals are in effect through June 30, 2027. The Unions represented for this position are BU20 and SEIU.
DSH‑Coalinga opened in 2005 and treats forensically committed patients, primarily sex offenders. It is a self‑contained psychiatric hospital with a security perimeter. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security and transportation of patients to external medical services and court proceedings.
