The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will support the GYN Oncology Surgery Clinic by providing high-quality clinical and administrative support to physicians, advanced practice providers, patients, and the surgical care team. This position will play an important role in coordinating patient care throughout the surgical process, supporting pre-operative and post-operative needs, and ensuring timely communication and follow-up for patients receiving gynecologic oncology care.

The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced oncology and surgical environment. The LVN must demonstrate strong clinical judgment within their scope of practice, excellent communication skills, and the ability to coordinate multiple patient needs while maintaining patient privacy and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a clinical resource and point of contact for patients, caregivers, providers, and members of the care team.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, APPs, RNs, MAs, surgery schedulers, hospital teams, and other departments.
  • Assist with referrals, authorizations, orders, and other care coordination activities as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Route clinical messages, tasks, and patient requests to the appropriate team member.
  • Follow up on outstanding orders, results, and clinical tasks to support continuity of care.
  • Review new patient info – ensure all relevant information is available prior to provider visit, including available outside healthcare provider records, imaging, and results.
  • Assist in with intakes for new patients and provide a warm and professional introduction to the practice, consistent with and inclusive of the written introduction document
  • Follow up via phone call with new patients after visits to reinforce, and to their best ability, ensure comprehension of next steps
  • Follow OncoEMR tasks related to new patients to ensure care is being completed in a timely fashion
  • Closely follow neoadjuvant patients to ensure visits and imaging are scheduled appropriately to allow for properly timed interval debulking. Review treatment plan to ensure no infusions are scheduled pre/post-operatively that would delay surgery or impair surgical healing. Ensure resumption of chemotherapy is done in a timely manner after surgical healing.
  • Follow up with patients with genetic testing indications and ensure the testing is ordered and completed, and results reviewed and as indicated, acted upon.
  • Review treatment plans for newly diagnosed gyn malignancies and ensure standardized regimens are ordered per NCCN guidelines and/or Dr. Blake’s recommendations.
  • Follow surveillance list to ensure all patients are scheduled or at minimum contacted to follow surveillance protocol if indicated in for their disease site.
  • Flexibly and proactively provide coverage for any gaps in clinical care when staff is out or unable to complete urgent tasks in a timely manner.
Qualifications
  • Current California LVN/LPN license.
  • Graduate of an accredited vocational nursing program.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • 2-3 years of previous clinical experience in an outpatient, surgical, oncology, women's health, or similar setting, required
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard computer applications.
  • Experience in GYN oncology, medical oncology, surgical oncology, or women's health, preferred
  • Experience assisting with surgical coordination and pre-operative/post-operative care, preferred
  • Experience with telephone triage and patient care coordination, preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus
