The City of Fresno Wastewater Management Division provides high-quality wastewater collection, treatment, and reclamation services. This is an opportunity to become a member of an extraordinary organization while serving the community.
As a Laboratory Assistant, under close supervision, you will assist in the laboratory by collecting samples, preparing for chemical and microbiological test procedures, maintaining and cleaning laboratory equipment, and may perform basic laboratory tests.
Responsibilities- Collect samples for laboratory testing.
- Prepare samples for chemical and microbiological test procedures.
- Maintain and clean laboratory equipment.
- Perform basic laboratory tests as directed.
- Assist with quality control and assurance procedures.
- Completion of nine semester units from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or a related field.
- Alternative qualifications:
One year of training and experience in an analytical laboratory; or possession of a valid Water Quality Analyst Certificate issued by the American Water Works Association; or Grade I Laboratory Technologist Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association. - Valid California Driver’s License may be required at time of appointment.
- Certificates must be uploaded for verification.
- Required to pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint process prior to employment.
- Written Examination: A job‑related written exam will assess knowledge and skills in laboratory sampling, testing, quality control, analysis, equipment operation, and related duties. A passing score is required to qualify for the eligible list.
- The exam is tentatively scheduled for the week of August 10, 2026.
