Job Title: R&D Laboratory Technician Level I
Employment Status: Full-Time
Reports To: Director of Product Support & Development-Fermentation
Classification: Non-exempt
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; evenings and weekends as required.
Position Summary: The R&D Laboratory Technician Level I supports the set-up and execution of customer and product research and experimentation and is ideal for individuals seeking hands-on experience in lab operations, analytical testing raw material validation, and sensory evaluation. In this role, you’ll conduct laboratory testing and prepare experiments in strict alignment with SOPs, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.
Working closely with colleagues, you’ll contribute to a highly collaborative environment that supports innovation, continuous improvement, and reliable outcomes.
- Conducts laboratory tests and analyses following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Prepares experiments by organizing materials, equipment, and samples for timely execution.
- Communicates results, observations, and issues effectively to team members and supervisors.
- Operates and maintains laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Performs routine cleaning, sterilization, and preparation of lab tools and supplies.
- Follows all laboratory safety procedures, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe chemical handling.
- Manages laboratory inventory, including chemicals and supplies, and supports ordering activities.
- Reports equipment issues, safety concerns, or material shortages promptly.
- Partners with R&D scientists and team members to support ongoing experiments and development projects.
- Associate’s degree preferred in Enology, Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, or a related field.
- 1-3 years laboratory experience including sample preparation, testing, and reporting required.
- Primarily works in a laboratory environment with occasional trips into a manufacturing facility with exposure to noise, dust, moving machinery, and temperature variations.
- The work environment may involve handling powdered samples, laboratory chemicals, reagents, wine or beer and alcohol-based samples, and cleaning materials, using appropriate safety practices and required protective equipment.
- Noise levels are generally moderate and may vary during deliveries, warehouse activity, or equipment operation.
