About the Organization

Position SummaryReporting to the Manager, Discovery Shop, the Assistant Manager, Discovery Shop oversees daily operations of a retail resale store with annual revenue of $500,000 to $750,000. The role leads a small employed staff (2‑4) and a large volunteer team (50+) to drive sales, achieve revenue goals and deliver an exceptional customer and donor experience.
Responsibilities- Provide leadership and operational oversight for donation acquisition, sales floor merchandising, and layout optimization.
- Ensure consistent execution of best practices across departments to maximize productivity and customer satisfaction.
- Elevate the customer experience by championing store best practices (30%).
- Partner with the manager to recruit, onboard, manage, develop, and retain staff and volunteers (30%).
- Support strategic initiatives, Loyalty program, promotional events, and budgeting to achieve revenue and net income goals (15%).
- Develop marketing content (email, SMS, social media) to raise store profile and support organizational initiatives (10%).
- Build community relationships to increase donations and elevate brand visibility (5%).
- Minimum:
High School Diploma or Equivalent. - Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree. - 2+ years of retail or service industry experience; leadership role a plus.
- Experience in resale, specialty, customer support, or merchandising a plus.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must meet vaccine requirements as required by government agencies for those working with the public.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn retail software (POS, reporting tools).
Physical Requirements
- Occasional, infrequent travel for store visits, team or regional meetings, and local donation pick‑up.
- Frequent walking and standing; occasional sitting; frequent lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Requires vision for close work, color, peripheral, depth perception; use of hands, reach, balance.
