The General Manager is accountable for ensuring superior customer service, driving sales and profitability, and maintaining effective expense and payroll budgets while upholding inventory and merchandising standards.
General SummaryThe General Manager is responsible for ensuring superior customer service, developing associates at all levels, driving sales and profitability, and managing expenses and payroll. The role also ensures compliance with inventory management, merchandising practices, and all corporate policies.
Responsibilities- Customer Service
- Provide positive representation of Westlake Ace Hardware.
- Proactively assist customers in solving problems.
- Greet customers upon entry and throughout the store.
- Thank customers when finished and when they are leaving.
- Maintain a friendly, outgoing demeanor; work well with customers and associates.
- Ensure all calls and pages are answered promptly, courteously and effectively.
- Handle customer complaints and resolve issues with the customer's best interest in mind.
- Possess excellent product knowledge and awareness of store layout.
- Store Operations
- Ensure a positive, professional and safe work environment for all associates.
- Supervise the general operations of the entire store.
- Order and maintain desirable product inventory levels to meet corporate objectives.
- Ensure compliance with practices, policies and procedures to manage inventory shrinkage.
- Monitor shrink numbers and take corrective actions.
- Manage preventative maintenance and repairs for building, fixtures and equipment.
- Oversee receiving, checking in, and stocking of merchandise.
- Maintain back stock levels.
- Assist with daily maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness of sales floor, stock room and outdoor areas.
- Ensure forklift operations and receiving are performed safely and efficiently.
- Ensure weekly price changes are completed.
- Ensure monthly cycle counts and negative on‑hand reports are completed.
- Keep signage current throughout the store.
- Provide a clean, orderly sales floor, including end caps and ad goods merchandising.
- Ensure special orders and rain‑checks are processed properly.
- Ensure ad signage and products are ready for customers.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Store Support Operations
- Manage P & L and other corresponding reports.
- Assist District Manager with the sales and expense budget process.
- Handle payroll and controllable expenses.
- Implement store support programs.
- Attend trade shows and seminars as guided by the company.
- Ensure successful loss prevention, safety, and internal audits.
- Assists with special projects within the district as directed by the District Manager.
- Hiring and Training of Associates
- Conduct weekly management staff meetings.
- Ensure effective training and development of all associates.
- Recruit prospective associates for possible management positions.
- Support hiring, scheduling, reviewing, rewarding and coaching of all store associates, including management.
- Actively recruit and promote the advancement of associates.
- Leadership
- Be a community-minded leader through civic organizations.
- Challenge all associates to improve merchandising, control expenses and increase sales.
- Lead by example; remain approachable by all associates and customers.
- Ability to exhibit and incorporate core values (Winning, Excellence, Love, Integrity, Gratitude, Humility, Teamwork) into daily decisions and interactions.
- High School or GED equivalent.
- Previous retail management experience required; hardware experience preferred.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 25 lbs and climb.
Starting at $85,000 per year.
