Ecologist II

Verdantas is seeking a Staff Ecologist II for Fresno, CA.

• Independently conduct and lead ecological surveys, including wetland delineations, biological resource assessments, and habitat restoration evaluations.
• Prepare and contribute to technical sections of environmental impact assessments, NEPA documents, and permit applications.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies and clients on assigned projects.
• Manage field crews during site investigations and contribute to quality review of junior staff work products.
• Support proposal development and scope‑of‑work preparation.
• Apply advanced ecological expertise to evaluate field and laboratory data and identify trends, relationships, and environmental implications.
• Clearly communicate technical findings to clients, agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams.

• Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field.
• 3–6 years of relevant or progressive experience in ecological consulting, environmental assessment, or natural resource management.
• Professional certifications such as Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or Certified Wildlife Biologist preferred.
• Experience with wildlife ecology and species‑specific habitat analysis.
• Proficiency in riparian ecology and stream and wetland assessment methods.
• Understanding of landscape ecology principles as applied to land‑use impact analysis.
• Knowledge of soil biology and soil classification for environmental characterization.
• Working knowledge of invertebrate zoology related to bioassessment.
• Strong analytical, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
