Operations & Maintenance Technician III — Welder/Fabricator
At the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, we deliver reliable water to a region with 19 million people. The Operations & Maintenance Technician III – Welder/Fabricator is a senior‑level role responsible for the design, fabrication, and repair of critical infrastructure within Metropolitan’s water treatment and hydroelectric systems.
What You’ll Do- Design, layout, and fabricate custom parts and equipment for large‑scale water distribution and hydroelectric facilities.
- Perform high‑level welding and repairs on critical assets such as high‑pressure pipelines, feeders, impellers, and housing structures.
- Maintain and refurbish specialized water‑utility assemblies, including large gates, valves, and shafts.
- Fabricate and install essential structural components such as cabinets, vaults, catwalks, guardrails, and drain covers.
- Travel to various district facilities throughout the service area, often requiring overnight stays.
Monday–Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
:
High‑school diploma or equivalency and at least 3 years of practical experience as a welder/fabricator, or completion of a recognized trade‑training program in an industrial environment.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
:
- Valid California Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
- Forklift certification.
- Manlift certification.
