Position Overview
The Fresno County Department of General Services invites applications for the position of Heavy Duty Mechanic
. Incumbents are responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions on heavy duty trucks and/or construction equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions.
- Maintain and repair heavy duty trucks and construction equipment.
- Option 1: Two (2) years of full‑time, paid work experience as a heavy equipment mechanic performing inspections, maintenance, diagnostics, and engine component repairs on heavy‑duty trucks and/or construction equipment. If you have fewer years of experience, you may substitute one (1) year of experience with completion of fifteen (15) semester units of coursework in automotive and/or diesel technology or a closely related field that is accepted by a U.S. accredited college or university.
- Option 2: Completion of an approved heavy‑duty equipment apprentice mechanic program certified by the Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS), California Department of Industrial Relations.
- Must possess a valid Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid Class “A” driver’s license, or equivalent, may be required.
Physical Requirements
Position in Medical Group III – Heavy Physical Activity requires lifting, propelling, or handling objects weighing at least 25 pounds and includes frequent bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, standing, and walking.
