This position provides participants with the tools and knowledge to prepare for successful community reentry through the delivery of cognitive behavioral curriculum such as Thinking For-A-Change (T4C) and other selected curriculum. The role also involves providing group facilitation in areas including cognitive self-change, social skills, problem solving, relationships, and other related issues.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Facilitate delivery of cognitive behavioral curriculum in a group setting focusing on motivation for change, social adjustment, personal management, social skills development, cognitive restructuring, and development of problem-solving skills.
- Conduct a periodic review of curriculum and resources available to enhance participants’ participation in post-release programs and activities.
- Maintain class rosters, attendance records, and provide completion certificates for T4C and other curriculum as required.
- Support the assessment of participant needs and make referrals to appropriate staff.
- Aid participants in planning and developing post-release plans and encourage them to assume responsibility for post-release behaviors and activities.
- Participate in orientation of participants regarding all behavioral treatment programs including, but not limited to, T4C.
- Facilitate and/or co-facilitate group counseling from a structured manual.
- Assist in the coordination of participant program schedules to ensure the criminogenic needs of participants are met.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree in Social Work or a closely related field is required.
- A minimum of four (4) years’ experience providing CBT experience to the criminal justice population is preferred.
- Relevant teaching or counseling experience in a correctional setting is preferred.
- Must be able to work in a correctional and custodial environment.
- Must possess the ability to work with a team of professionals and implement team strategy approaches to work assignments.
- Must be flexible, cooperative, and empathetic to the needs of staff and participants.
- Ability to prepare written reports; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and to learn rules, regulations, and security procedures required by the facility.
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
