The anticipated salary hiring range is $5,083 - $5,250 per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The salary range for this classification is $5,083 to $7,228 per month.
- This full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week) position is temporary and expected to end on or before August 31, 2027. Extension of this assignment is contingent upon sufficient additional funding and satisfactory performance.
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job SummaryUnder the general supervision of the Dean of Students and lead direction from the Clinical Case Manager, the Essential Needs Resource Specialist provides comprehensive student support services and case management for students experiencing challenges that may impede their academic success, retention, persistence, and overall well‑being.
ResponsibilitiesThe Essential Needs Resource Specialist assists students experiencing food insecurity, housing instability, financial hardship, transportation barriers, health‑related concerns, family challenges, personal crises, and other complex circumstances affecting their educational experience. Through assessment, advocacy, resource navigation, care coordination, intervention, and follow‑up services, the incumbent assists students in identifying barriers, developing plans to address challenges, and connecting with campus and community resources.
The Essential Needs Resource Specialist collaborates closely with campus departments including Financial Aid, Student Health and Counseling Services, Student Conduct, Housing, the Student Cupboard, and community organizations to provide coordinated support for students. The position participates in committees focused on student retention, and student success initiatives. The incumbent contributes to a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and affirming environment for all students and demonstrates a commitment to equity, access, advocacy, and student success.
KeyQualifications
- Carry out complex assignments with a high degree of independence and sound judgment.
- Analyze and resolve complex student service issues.
- Assess student needs and identify appropriate interventions and resources.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse populations.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Present information to individuals and groups.
- Equivalent to graduation from a four‑year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
- A Master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices related to higher education and student affairs.
- Experience working with college students or young adults.
- Experience addressing issues related to basic needs insecurity, housing instability, food insecurity, and financial hardship.
- Experience coordinating services across multiple systems and organizations.
- Experience developing and facilitating workshops, presentations, and outreach activities.
- Knowledge of public benefits programs and community resource networks.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success.
