What You’ll Do
Class Dojo is looking for people to join our virtual worlds platform team. Dojo Islands, our virtual playground, is being used by millions of kids in classrooms and world is procedurally generated and user‑customizable. Students use this in the classrooms to learn to work collaboratively to build on the island, and teachers can use it to set up STEM activities for the kids to collaborate on.
The virtual world is built using web technologies with the goal that it is performant and scalable on the low‑end devices used in schools or s includes a wide range of Chromebooks, tablets (iOS and Android) and web browsers.
The Monster verse team is responsible for building the Dojo Islands game, the underlying game engine, the internal game editor (Dojo Creator) and the scalable cloud infrastructure that powers Dojo Islands. As an engineer on the team, you will bring your expertise in one or more of the game subsystems—rendering, networking, avatars, and performance engineering—to help deliver the highest‑quality game to our players.
You will also build gameplay functionality with a modular, systems‑first approach. Your creativity in prototyping fun gameplay and game‑design ideas will be validated and shipped to production with very high quality. You will collaborate with other engineers and cross‑functional team members in a continuous‑delivery environment. Like all teams at Class Dojo, this team follows agile Kanban methodology and strikes a tight balance between iteration and building with a long view.
Will Be a Match If
- 7+ years of experience working on game engine technologies across rendering, networking, physics, and runtime data model—with deep expertise in at least one area.
- Track record of delivering complex features in a CI/CD environment.
- Experience in near real‑time responsiveness in Live Ops platforms.
- Track record of delivering online multiplayer experiences at platform scale.
- Demonstrated technical leadership driving engineering practices and processes with clear outcomes.
- Experience with WebGL
- Play Canvas experience is a bonus!
- Experience with web development workflows, including but not limited to
- Node.js, JavaScript, Type Script
- React
- Experience and familiarity with Dev Ops and platform infrastructure, such as:
- AWS Cloud Infrastructure (EC2, Lambda, Dynamo
DB) - Cloud infrastructure for deployment, scaling and optimization (e.g., Terraform, Docker, Consul, Nomad)
- MySQL, Mongo
DB, Redis - Azure Play Fab game services
- AWS Cloud Infrastructure (EC2, Lambda, Dynamo
- Avid learner curious about new technologies, especially where AI meets content creation.
- Open‑source code contributor.
- Founder or early engineer on startup teams.
Salary ranges (United States):
CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT states: $171,500 - $250,000 (USD)
All other states in the US: $146,000 - $215,000 (USD)
