The Yard Dog Driver is responsible for efficiently maneuvering trucks and trailers within the yard of a cattle slaughter plant. This role ensures the timely movement of vehicles, facilitates the loading and unloading processes, and maintains the organization of the yard to support the operational flow of the plant.
Responsibilities- Operate yard trucks and trailers to move vehicles to and from loading docks, staging areas, and other designated locations within the yard.
- Perform precise maneuvering to position trailers for loading and unloading, ensuring alignment with docks and equipment.
- Assist with the efficient loading and unloading of cattle offal and related materials, coordinating with plant personnel to ensure smooth operations.
- Ensure that all loads are securely fastened and comply with safety standards.
- Maintain an organized yard layout by managing the placement and positioning of trailers and other equipment.
- Monitor yard conditions and report any issues or hazards to the Yard Manager/Supervisor.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Conduct routine inspections of yard trucks and equipment to ensure they are in safe and working condition.
- Coordinate with plant staff, including loaders, dock workers, and management, to ensure efficient workflow and address any operational concerns.
- Previous experience in a similar role or with heavy equipment is preferred.
- Ability to operate yard trucks and other heavy machinery.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move objects.
- Capable of standing, walking, and climbing in various conditions for extended periods.
- Overtime may be required based on operational needs.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays if needed.
