Position Description
The Drill Operatorisresponsibleforsafelyandefficientlyoperatingdirectionaldrillingandlocatingequipmentusedtoinstallundergroundconduit ,fiber,andrelatedsystems.
Thispositionrequiresahighleveloftechnicalskill,attentiontosafety,andtheabilitytoleadandcommunicateeffectivelywithinacrew.
Drill Operatorsplayakeyroleinmaintainingproductionstandards,equipment maintenance,andoveralljobsiteperformance.
- Operatedirectionaldrillingandlocatingequipment(Ditch Witch,Vermeer,or equivalent) tocompleteplannedborepaths.
- Conductpre-jobsiteinspectionsandensureallutilitiesareproperlylocatedandpotholedbeforedrilling.
- Navigateanddrillaroundexistingutilities,waterlines,andothersubsurfacestructuressafely.
- Performdailyequipmentinspectionsandpreventativemaintenanceonthedrill,truck,andsupporttrailer.
- Followallmanufacturersafetyguidelinesandindustrybestpractices.
- Leadsetupandteardownofjobsites,includingsignage,cones,andbarricades.
- Directandmentorcrewmembersinboregelmixing,equipmentsetup,andconduitplacement.
- Maintainaccuratedailyproductionlogsandas-builtdocumentation.
- Driveandtransportthedrillandsupportequipmenttoandfromjobsites.
- Keepequipmentandvehiclesclean,organized,andwellmaintained.
- Valid driver's license(
CDLAwith Tanker Endorsementrequired ). - 1+yearofexperienceoperatingdirectionaldrillingorlocatingequipment.
- Provenknowledgeofundergroundconstructionsafetyproceduresandlocatecompliancelaws.
- Abilitytoreadandinterpretjobprints,boremaps,androuteplans.
- Willingnesstoworkinaphysicallydemandingoutdoorenvironment.
- Experiencewithboth
Ditch Witch
and
Vermeer
equipmentmodels. - Familiaritywithutilityconstructionstandards,borefluids,andrestorationprocesses.
- Strongcommunicationandleadershipabilitieswithinafieldcrew.
- Mechanicalaptitudeandtroubleshootingskillsforfield-basedissues.
- Regularliftingof
50-75lbs.,frequent bending,stooping,andrepetitivephysicaltasks. - Abilitytoworkoutdoorsyear-roundinvaryingweatherconditions.
- Manualdexterityandcoordinationforsafeequipmentoperation.
- Demonstratesdependability,safetyfocus,andteamleadership.
- Thispositionoperatesinoutdoorfieldconditionsyear-round,includingexposuretoheat,cold,rain,andsnow.
- Worksitesmayinvolvemud,uneven terrain,liveutilities,andmovingtraffic.
- ProperPPEandadherencetosafetyprotocolsaremandatoryatalltimes.
- Full-time,non-exempt position.
- Typicalscheduleis Monday-Friday,withoccasionalevenings,weekends,ornightworkasrequiredbyprojectdemands.
- Regularattendanceandflexibilityareessential.
- Complete Universal Servicessafety ,CDL,andequipmentoperationtrainingmoduleswithinthefirst
90days. - Demonstrateproficiencyinboreplanning,locating,anddrillingprocedures.
- Maintainaccuratedailyrecordsandcommunicateeffectivelywithcrewandsupervisors.
- Participateinongoingsafety,equipment maintenance,andleadershiptraining.
- Cross-trainasalocatorandmentornewoperators.
- Continuedevelopingleadershipandcoordinationskillsinpreparationforadvancementto Foreman.
