About the OrganizationLutheran Education Association of Houston (LEAH) is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to operate and champion exemplary Lutheran schools in the Houston area and by doing so expanding Christ’s kingdom. The Association operates two private Christian schools educating early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school students from PreK to grade 12. The schools are Lutheran South Academy and Westlake Lutheran Academy with an enrollment exceeding 1,000 enrolled students.
PositionSummary
We are looking for an Accounting Manager or Controller. The job title will be dependent on candidate’s experience. The Accounting Manager/Controller will oversee all accounting functions and manage journal entries ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with GAAP and governmental regulations. This position leads daily accounting functions, manages financial reporting, and ensures strong internal controls. The Accounting Manager/Controller reports directly to the CFO.
Key Responsibilities- Accounting Management: Oversee all accounting functions including general ledgers, making journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, student billing, cash receipts, and charitable donations.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Audit & Compliance: Coordinate and run annual independent audits and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Form 990: To work with outside accounting firm to coordinate and prepare the associations filing of its annual Form 990.
- Grant and Non-Profit Accounting: Oversee grant and project reporting, ensuring expenditures align with funding and accurately track and record donations with restricted and unrestricted designations.
- Internal Controls: Implement and maintain robust internal controls and financial policies.
- Cash Management & Treasury: Manage banking relationships and ensure timely cash flow management.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business required; CPA preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with a strong preference for experience in educational or non-profit environment.
- Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (Blackbaud FE NXT/Quick Books preferred), high level of Microsoft Excel skills, strong analytical skills, detailed knowledge of GAAP, leadership abilities, and ability to understand and implement enterprise platforms that feed into accounting software.
- Attributes: Strong work ethic, ability to manage and lead multiple clients, work independently, be responsive on a timely basis, high ethical standards, alignment with LEAH’s mission, strong organizational skills, and ability to communicate financial data to leadership and non-financial staff.
$85,000-$120,000 based on candidates experience and CPA designation.
