ABOUT HENSLEY CPA FIRM PA

Hensley CPA Firm PA is a growing, 23-person public accounting firm based in Frisco, Texas, serving small and medium-sized businesses across a wide range of industries. We go well beyond tax compliance -- we are the accounting department for our clients. Our team manages full-service engagements that include monthly bookkeeping, payroll, sales tax, financial reporting, tax planning, and CFO-level advisory services.

We are a close-knit, high-performing team that takes our work seriously and has a lot of fun doing it. If you are looking for a firm where your expertise is valued, your growth is supported, and no two days are exactly the same, you have found the right place.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for an experienced accounting professional to join our Client Services team as a CFO. This is a senior-level individual contributor and team lead role. The title reflects the level of expertise and advisory value you will deliver to a dedicated portfolio of business clients who are counting on us as their outsourced financial leadership.

You will own a book of business end to end: reviewing monthly financials produced by Client Managers on your team, preparing and reviewing tax returns, providing proactive tax planning and financial advisory services, and serving as the senior point of contact for high-level client matters. You will also directly supervise one or more Client Managers and play a key role in their professional development.

We are looking for someone who is sharp, proactive, client-focused, and ready to lead. If you wait to be told what to do each morning, this is probably not the role for you. If you thrive on owning your work, building relationships, and delivering real value to the businesses you serve -- read on.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Accounting Review & Monthly Close
  • Review monthly close work product completed by Client Managers for accuracy and quality
  • Ensure management reports are issued to clients by the 20th of each month
  • Verify payroll reconciliations tie to the general ledger for all assigned clients
  • Review sales tax filings for accuracy; oversee timely filing
  • Prepare and present S-Corp owner payroll calculations for year end reasonable compensation purposes
Tax Planning & Return Preparation
  • Prepare and/or review federal and state income tax returns for assigned business and individual clients
  • Conduct proactive, year-round tax planning -- not just end-of-year estimates
  • Communicate tax estimates, strategies, and results directly to clients
  • Coordinate with the Tax Director on complex filings and multi-entity planning situations
  • Stay current on tax law changes affecting the assigned client base
Client Relationship Management
  • Serve as the primary senior contact for high-level client questions, escalations, and advisory conversations
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with business owners -- show up with insights, not just reports
  • Lead periodic client meetings to review financial performance and advisory recommendations
  • Manage client expectations around scope, timelines, and deliverables
Team Supervision & Development
  • Directly supervise one or more Client Managers; provide day-to-day guidance, feedback, and mentorship
  • Monitor Client Manager workload, Canopy project status, and engagement progress across the shared portfolio
  • Provide technical direction and help develop the professional judgment of the CMs on your team
  • Escalate performance concerns or recurring workflow issues to firm leadership as appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS
  • CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation -- preferred but will consider highly experienced professionals without designation
  • Minimum 4-6 years of experience in public accounting, including tax preparation and financial statement review
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships independently and professionally
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading junior accounting staff
  • Proficiency with Quick Books Online; comfort with practice management software (Canopy or similar)
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines simultaneously
