Primary PurposePlan and provide services to students educationally identified with dyslexia. Provide dyslexia intervention to reduce impairment that interferes with the student's ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.
QualificationsEducation/Certification: Bachelor's degree or higher
Valid Texas teaching certificate in one of the following:
Special Education EC-12, Generalist/Core Subjects, ELAR, Reading Specialist, Master Reading Teacher (or other certificate in the field of literacy)
Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP)/Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) certification: candidate will be expected to complete a two-year accredited dyslexia therapist training program AND obtain CALP/CALT certification by successfully passing the required examination
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
Ability to evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness
Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with faculty, students, parents, and members of the community
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience: Minimum of three years teaching experience in the subject area assigned
Major Responsibilities and DutiesDyslexia Intervention: Plan and provide appropriate dyslexia intervention to students who have been educationally identified with dyslexia (face to face or virtually). Evaluate student progress and program efficacy.
Instructional Strategies: Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) process to collaborate with students, parents, campus, and District staff to develop appropriately challenging Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Participate in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis.
Collect and analyze student progress data through progress monitoring and informal assessments.
Communication: Collaborate with staff on creation of student daily schedules.
Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents regarding progress of the intervention process. Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improve reading skills of students. Provide professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and understand the characteristics of dyslexia.
Classroom Management and Organization:
Follow District and campus guidelines for classroom layout.
Create classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Collaborate with teachers and staff regarding individual student behavior supports.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Organize, maintain, and file all physical and computerized data, records, and other documents.
Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and Board policy. Comply with all District policies and procedures as well as campus procedures.
Professional Growth and Development:
Participate in campus and District professional development.
Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, District, and school regulations and policies for special education staff.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
