Primary Purpose
Instruct students in all facets of 5th grade music and assist as needed with 6th grade music classes/programming, as identified in our Frisco ISD Music Curriculum, and enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society through appropriate learning activities and experiences to help fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree in Music or Music Education from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned

Skills:
Extensive content knowledge
Operational knowledge of all aspects of an intermediate school music program
Effective classroom management and teaching skills
Ability to manage a budget
Knowledge of state policies and expectations pertaining to music
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Working knowledge of relevant technology
Strong collaborative skills
Experience:
Instrumental music experience (Band) preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Programming:
Develop an annual calendar of student performance opportunities and events in which campus participation is required (as outlined in the Frisco ISD Fine Arts Handbook) along with any other optional showcase or performance opportunities in which students may participate as requested by the campus.
Teaching and Learning:
Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the District's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
Maintain educational records demonstrating student mastery and growth in curricular content.
Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to District requirements.
Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) as appropriate.
Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
Student Growth and Development:
Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of all students.
Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
Accompany and supervise students for both on and off campus activities as appropriate.
Be a positive role model for students.
Support the mission of the Frisco Independent School District, to know each student by name and need.
Budget Management:
Ensure that program funds are managed wisely to stay within program budget allotment.
Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within the department.
Classroom Management and Organization:
Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Communication:
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers as needed.
Employ excellent interpersonal skills and promote collaborative teaming by working with campus and District colleagues to develop a positive school climate.
Professional Growth and Development:
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Keep informed of and comply with state, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents pertaining to professional development as required by Frisco ISD and the Texas State Board for Educator Certification.
Attend and actively participate in required District Professional Learning Communities.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Maintain current knowledge of innovative and effective curriculum practices related to content area.
Active participation in official state organizations (TMEA).
