Cultural Affairs Education And Outreach Coordinator
Under general supervision of the Heritage Park Administrator, the Cultural Affairs Education and Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the development, organization, implementation and marketing of educational programs targeting schools, community organizations, neighborhood associations, and visitors to increase public awareness and participation. The Education and Outreach Coordinator will also oversee the activities associated with the planning and development of outreach and on-site programs in various city facilities.
Essential Job Functions & Other Important Duties:
- Oversees the activities associated with the planning and development of outreach and on-site programs.
- Coordinates and presents education programs, classroom activities, teacher workshops and adult educational programs.
- Coordinates tours with area schools, day cares and community groups.
- Designs, promotes and maintains the public education program and curriculum related to art and cultural outreach efforts including in-house development of brochures, fliers, newspaper articles, website, social media outlets and City cable public information spots.
- Provides liaison with local educational institutions including FISD and Collin College.
- Provides expertise to community organizations to encourage program development and public support for the City's arts and cultural programs.
- Coordinates, organizes, promotes and attends training workshops.
- Researches and develops grant opportunities; writes and submits applications for funding; administers grants.
- Maintains, prepares and submits records for monthly and quarterly reports as well as local and state reports.
- Assists Heritage Park Administrator in the development of education and outreach budgets.
- Creates and maintains a database of contacts from campus locations, civic and field-related organizations and commercial entities.
- Coordinates and supervises volunteers, works with related staff to establish a volunteer base to assist in the development of training materials and educational outreach/community involvement programs.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises work activities of Heritage Center volunteers and continues to build the Heritage Center's docent program.
- Works closely with volunteers, interns, local organizations and businesses to schedule presentations and public educational programs for various audiences.
- Collects public education evaluation data for further use in program reports and evaluations.
Other Important Duties:
- Attends City and Department events on evenings and weekends as needed.
- May be required to work extended hours on evenings and weekends, including holidays.
- Participates in local, regional, and national organizations focused on arts and cultural programs.
- May travel to attend meetings, conferences, special events and training.
- Assists with special projects as assigned by the Heritage Park Administrator.
- Assists with building coverage, including opening and closing responsibilities.
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of educational methods and instructional techniques for a wide variety of audiences, including key learning characteristics of individual age groups.
- Knowledge of newsletter, advertisement, brochure, press release and marketing development techniques.
- Knowledge of research, analysis, and application techniques for grant programs and funding preferred.
- Knowledge of City management policies and procedures.
- Ability to develop creative, innovative educational programs and ideas.
- Skill in effective English oral and written communication and public speaking.
- Proficiency in the use of computers and related equipment, hardware and software applicable to area of assignment, specifically Microsoft Word, Power Point, Publisher, Access and Excel, as well as basic multi-media and A/V equipment.
Education, Experience, and Certifications/Licenses:
- Bachelor's Degree in education, business administration, history, art, or related field and one (1) year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with volunteer coordination/management preferred.
- Effective Spanish oral and written communication skills a plus.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and MVR check.
- Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver's License.
