Position: Senior Electric Distribution Design Engineer (PE), Texas

Senior Electric Distribution Design Engineer (PE), Texas

We've built one of the nation's largest infrastructure consulting firms on a core tenet: focus on people, treat them well, and success will follow. So, we hire the industry's most talented professionals, make them owners and continually develop and reward them.

As we grow our Electric Power Delivery practice, Halff is seeking experienced Senior Electric Distribution Design Engineers (PE) to join us in one of our Texas office locations on our journey. The ideal candidate would bring at least 8 years of experience designing distribution designs for both overhead and underground electric distribution lines. This is an excellent opportunity to progress your career by applying your knowledge and expertise to working with co‑ops, municipalities, or investor‑owned utilities in designing new overhead and underground electric distribution lines, relocating and upgrading existing lines, and designing substation distribution takeoffs.

You will have the opportunity to take on a broader role including expanding your technical capabilities, mentoring less experienced designers, and seeking continuous improvements to our project execution process. This position offers an excellent career development opportunity for someone looking to grow with Halff, with potential for not only business and personal growth, but ownership in the firm.

What you will do:
  • Preparing designs, construction packages, and bills of material for progressively complex distribution line projects and providing engineering support to the full project life cycle from concept through construction to as-builts.
  • Performing on-site visits as necessary for determining routes, staking, right-of-way requirements, locates, and identifying all existing conditions in preparation for designs.
  • Acts as customer point-of-contact throughout the work management process by receiving and responding to customer phone calls and emails. Will need to update tracking system.
  • Create, edit, analyze and implement gas facility data updates from job construction sketches, as-built sheets, or mobile applications using standardized symbology and data placement business rules, related to civic improvement, rehab or other existing work.
  • Meet for preconstruction meetings and/or any issues that may occur during construction.
  • Perform electric power calculations for determining capacity and effective sizing of distribution material and equipment.
  • Prepare mockups and designs as needed
  • Performing QA/QC of distribution line designs and construction packages prepared by other designers.
  • Work with the Project Managers and other associated teams to meet deadlines, aid in engineering decisions, and collaborate on Projects.
  • Assisting in the development of distribution engineering design philosophies, standards, details, and specifications.
  • Continuously seeking improvements to our project execution processes, including safety by design, quality, and consistency.
  • Mentoring, and/or training Designers, CADD Technicians and administrative staff.
  • Report to client office or Halff office daily
  • All other duties as assigned.
What you will need:
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas (in good standing).
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil engineering or ABET accredited equivalent engineering degree (Civil, Structural, or Architectural preferred).
  • Must have a minimum of 8 years or more experience designing distribution designs for both overhead and underground electric distribution lines.
  • Proficient in creating plan and profile distribution designs in AutoCAD.
  • Experience with CAD-based or GIS-based design tools for electric power infrastructure.
  • High-level of interpersonal relationship, communications, facilitation, team building, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
