Job DescriptionThis internal position in Washington National Tax provides thought leadership to the Baker Tilly tax practice and clients. It is ideal for tax specialists who want to expand technical skills and build a career in compensation and benefits taxation.

- Provide tax technical support and insight to team members in tax, audit, consulting and internal HR practices on employee benefits and executive compensation issues.
- Brief team members on relevant issues, attend client meetings, and review matters with clients or their legal counsel. Deliver emails, planning memos, conference calls, and meetings.
- Apply relevant tax authority to real‑world situations.
- Keep abreast of current developments and prepare tax alerts for the firm.
- Draft internal and external tax communications regarding new developments in compensation and benefit matters.
- Lead formal and informal training on employee benefit/executive compensation for tax, audit and consulting practices; prepare articles for professional journals; participate in government hearings and conferences.
- Work with other specialty groups on overlapping technical matters such as corporate taxation and partnerships.
- Participate in tax research projects.
- Develop recommendations and share with leadership to discuss and strategize.
- Assist the National Controversy Group with technical support for clients undergoing IRS examinations.
- Learn and grow through on‑the‑job coaching, mentoring, and firm‑wide learning programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, law, or related business field.
- CPA or JD required.
- Extensive knowledge of compensation and benefits taxation (IRC 409A, 83, 162(m), 280G) in both privately and publicly held companies.
- Minimum 7–15 years of experience in executive compensation, with emphasis on transaction‑related issues.
- 5+ years of supervisory experience.
- 10+ years of experience with a large accounting or law firm, or relevant tax policy‑making entity.
- Strong research, analytical, critical‑thinking, and project‑management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent client service, commitment to continuous learning, ethical knowledge, urgency, and quality focus.
- Ability to modify schedule daily/weekly as tax developments occur.
- Compensation range: $109,460 – $207,530 nationally. In California: $115,900 – $207,530.
- Comprehensive benefits package to eligible employees.
