About the AFS Transitions Team

The Accounting & Finance Services (AFS) Transitions Team is a core component of Baker Tilly’s Managed Services offering. We help new clients stabilize financial operations, implement cloud-based accounting systems, and establish scalable, efficient processes before transitioning them to recurring service teams. Our work ensures clients achieve long-term success through strong system foundations and operational excellence.

Position Overview

The Director, Transitions Technology Team Leader oversees the technology strategy, implementation, and operations that support AFS transitions. This role owns the AFS technology portfolio, drives the adoption of new and emerging technologies, ensures effective onboarding execution, and leads standardization efforts across platforms, geographies, and industries. The Director partners with Digital Advisory and internal stakeholders to enable high-quality, consistent, and profitable delivery of technology-enabled transition services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technology Portfolio Leadership — Own, manage, and maintain the AFS technology portfolio, including existing tools and emerging solutions.
  • Technology evaluation — Explore, evaluate, and recommend new or advanced technologies aligned with client ICPs and firm strategy.
  • Stakeholder alignment — Liaise with Digital Advisory and TDIO on tech stack alignment, roadmap development, and day-to-day Alliances management.
  • Solution design input — Assess and approve technology-related components during scoping and solution design.
  • Client Onboarding & Implementation — Oversee data conversion, system setup, and workflow configuration for onboarding new clients.
  • System integration & configuration — Lead system integration, configuration, and support across multiple ERP and accounting platforms.
  • Automation & optimization — Identify and implement automation, efficiency, and optimization opportunities.
  • Implementation quality — Ensure high-quality implementation of ERP transformations and technology-enabled processes.
  • Team Leadership & Staffing — Leads Transitions technology team and enables recurring service teams on technology features, functions, and automation capabilities.
  • Phase 4 enhancements — Drive optimization and “phase 4” enhancement projects with recurring clients.
  • Assessment & Solution Design — Conduct structured client assessments to identify objectives, risks, system requirements, and reporting needs; translate findings into actionable plans; review and validate transition plans for quality and standards adherence.
  • Stakeholder Engagement — Partner with practice leadership and business development on proposals and solution alignment; provide transparent reporting on progress, risks, utilization, and financial performance.
  • M&A Support — Lead M&A technology onboarding and integration; assess current-state technologies and opportunities for alignment or consolidation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Accounting knowledge preferred.
  • Minimum 12+ years of experience in technology leadership, client onboarding, and system implementation.
  • Extensive experience with CAS or managed accounting services.
  • Proven success leading ERP transformations across multiple platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to design scalable accounting processes and manage complex transitions.
  • Strong consultative, relationship-building, and advisory skills.
  • Agile, adaptable, and comfortable leading through change.

The compensation range for this role is $182,150 to $345,330. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
