Clinical Documentation Registered Nurse RN - Remote $10K Sign On Bonus

Job Summary:

Responsible for reviewing medical records to obtain appropriate physician documentation for clinical conditions or procedures to support severity of illness, expected risk of mortality, and complexity of care. Improves the quality of physicians’ clinical documentation and educates the patient care team on documentation guidelines.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Record Review:
    Complete initial medical records reviews within 24-48 hours of admission for a specified patient population to evaluate documentation for accurate MS-DRG assignment, risk of mortality, and severity of illness; initiate a review worksheet.
  • Follow-up Reviews:
    Conduct follow-up reviews every 2-3 days to support and assign a working or final MS-DRG at discharge, as necessary.
  • Physician Queries:
    Formulate queries for missing, unclear, or conflicting documentation and obtain additional documentation as needed.
  • Collaboration:

    Work with case managers, nursing staff, and other ancillary staff to interact with physicians and resolve queries prior to discharge.
  • Training:
    Assist in training department staff new to CDI.
  • Professional Development:
    Stay current with AHA Official Coding and Reporting Guidelines, CMS directives for ICD-9-CM and CPT coding; attend required coding seminars, quarterly Coding Clinic reviews, and CDI education.
  • CDI

    Activities:

    Communicate and complete Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) activities and follow up on coding issues for resolution.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Teamwork, initiative, and time management
  • Ability to travel nationally up to 10% as needed
  • Advanced knowledge of Medicare Part A, familiarity with Part B; intermediate knowledge of disease pathophysiology, MS-DRG classification, and reimbursement
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of coding compliance and regulatory standards; ability to apply coding conventions and Coding Clinic guidance
  • Ability to maintain auditing and monitoring of query processes and documentation strategies
Education / Experience
  • Preferred:
    Acute Care nursing experience
  • Zero to two years experience
  • Graduate from a Nursing program (BSN or higher)
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Active state Registered Nurse license
  • Preferred: CDIP or CCDS
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and use computer equipment
  • Good visual acuity
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Travel nationally as needed, up to 10%

Compensation

Pay: $72,508.80 - $ annually. Individual wages are determined based on qualifications and experience.
