Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and in consultation with the Emergency Room Physician, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides professional nursing services. As a patient advocate, the LVN offers physical and psycho‑social support to patients and families and serves as backup for the Registered Nurse as needed. The LVN organizes, modifies, evaluates, documents, and maintains the plan of care for Emergency Department patients.
Job Responsibilities- Document patient’s current medication list, including names, dosages, frequency, duration, and start date.
- Administer medication and treatment as prescribed through written provider orders, and note procedures in the chart.
- Incurs accountability for medication administration errors and participates in disciplinary processes when applicable.
- Perform EKGs.
- Conduct laboratory procedures from specimen collection, as authorized by the Director of Nursing/Medical Director.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in quality improvement projects.
- Assist nursing leadership in nursing practices, policy development, and patient care protocols.
- Provide excellent customer service, accurately reassess and document patient needs, and prioritize tasks in an organized and timely manner.
- Collaborate with physicians to develop appropriate plans of care.
- Demonstrate high‑level customer service and anticipate patient needs while maintaining quality and compassion.
- Participate in problem‑solving on the unit to improve process and patient flow.
- Ensure maximum patient safety at all times.
- Maintain flexibility to adapt to changes in patient volume.
- Foster positive professional relationships with other nursing units and ancillary staff.
- Perform laboratory point‑of‑care testing and all CLIA‑waived tests approved by the Laboratory Director.
- Follow up on all send‑out lab specimens with accurate documentation and notify physicians.
- Document on the perpetual narcotic inventory form and report discrepancies to the Nurse Manager immediately.
- Execute daily lab and equipment checks for quality assurance.
- Make follow‑up phone calls as needed.
- Maintain the facility in a clean and operational state per OSHA, reporting any equipment failure or deficiencies.
- Document patient confidentiality accurately in the chart.
- Delegate appropriately to Radiology Technician, Registration Clerk, and EMT‑Paramedic.
- Monitors supply each shift and reports shortages.
- Review company emails daily as the primary means of communication.
- Accurately document incidents and report to the Nurse Manager and attending physician.
- Use biohazard containers correctly and empty sharps containers in a timely and safe manner.
- May be required to work holidays and weekends as needed.
- Licensed Vocational Nurse with a current Texas license.
- Minimum of 1year emergency‑room experience (preferred).
- Current BLS certification.
- ACLS and PALS certifications preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Flexible and service‑oriented approach.
- Problem‑solving abilities with critical‐thinking skills and awareness of changing conditions.
- Demonstrate specific competencies as listed on the competency validation checklist(s).
- Showage‑specific knowledge of human growth, development, and patient care.
- Ensure privacy and confidentiality of patient PHI.
- Meet mutually agreed performance goals/objectives.
- Utilize the nursing process for individualized care.
- Perform technical skills and procedures accurately.
- Document all patient care thoroughly.
- Promote and exhibit teamwork.
- Complete mandatory education.
- Comply with policies, procedures, and patient safety initiatives.
- Perform duties in a fast‑paced emergency room environment.
- Be able to lift and/or move using proper body mechanics; request assistance when needed.
- Stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as required.
- Submit to random drug screenings.
