Externship Program Overview
An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students the opportunity to understand day‑to‑day hospital operations and gain hands‑on clinical experience. Most externship experiences at Animal Medical & Surgery Hospital (AMSH) of Frisco range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students are encouraged to participate.
Responsibilities- Gather patient histories
- Perform physical exams
- Create treatment plans
- Conduct diagnostics
- Provide dentistry services
- Observe and assist or perform surgical procedures
- Manage patients medically
- Communicate with the medical team, support staff, and clients
Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Stipend amounts and details are available on the company website.
