Overview
The City of Frisco is seeking facilities maintenance technicians. The experience and certification levels for these positions vary from “apprentice” to expert, with an appropriate degree of responsibilities and compensation. Under the general direction of a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, these technicians provide general maintenance support for City facilities, ensuring that scheduled maintenance is completed and projects are coordinated with Facilities Manager, Facilities Maintenance Supervisors and other building maintenance personnel.
They are responsible for repairing and maintaining building HVAC, electrical, security, lighting, plumbing, equipment, and commercial building systems.
Hiring range depends on qualifications. Pay ranges are structured as follows:
- Facilities Technician I: $21.3340/hr – $29.8675/hr (min/midpoint/max)
- Facilities Technician II: $22.9744/hr – $32.1641/hr
- Facilities Technician III: $25.3594/hr – $35.5031/hr
- Senior Facilities Technician: $26.6433/hr – $38.6326/hr
Electrical/Plumbing/HVAC certification pay:
- $100 per month / $1,200 annually – HVAC Contractor Class A or B
- $300 per month / $3,600 annually – Master Plumber or Master Electrician
- $400 per month / $4,800 annually – Combination Master Plumber or Master Electrician with HVAC Contractor Class A or B
The position levels and expectations are as follows:
- Facilities Technician I — Apprentice/minimally skilled; capable of diagnosing problems and prescribing resolutions; related trade experience; licensure/certification as appropriate for tasks.
- Facilities Technician II — Skilled; higher independence; strong experience in at least one relevant trade; licensure/certification as appropriate.
- Facilities Technician III — Intermediate skilled; several years of experience; higher independence; strong experience in at least one relevant trade; licensure/certification as appropriate.
- Senior Facilities Technician — Senior level; independent diagnosis; subject matter expert in at least one trade; licensure/certification as appropriate.
The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties and may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those listed.
Responsibilities- Respond to work assignments within 30 minutes when on call.
- Install, maintain and repair building systems including HVAC, electrical, security, lighting, plumbing and related equipment; operate and repair related systems per industry standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints and drawings; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Utilize computer systems for work orders, records and reports.
- Work on-call rotating shifts as required.
- Complete work orders and timekeeping; maintain records and reports as required; complete maintenance activities in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Operate hand and small power tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair operations.
- May be required to work evenings, nights and weekends.
- Perform other related duties as assigned; regular and consistent attendance is essential.
- Knowledge of heating, ventilation and air conditioning, water distribution, electrical, structural systems and applicable codes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, plans and specifications.
- Must communicate effectively; proficiency with computers.
- High School Diploma or GED; vocational/technical training in building trades preferred.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical ability test, criminal background check, and MVR check.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in office and field environments; exposure to extreme weather, hazardous chemicals, fumes, infectious diseases, and other safety risks may occur; building conditions may be hazardous or unstable.
