Overview

Under direct supervision of the Irrigation Supervisor, the Irrigation Technician assists in the evaluation and inspection of irrigation systems for Frisco water customers and implements other water conservation programs.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts routine inspections of irrigation and sprinkler systems to detect problems and maintain irrigation system.
  • Learns to program standard automatic controller systems to maintain water efficiency of irrigation and sprinkler systems.
  • Learns to analyze and evaluate evapotranspiration (ET) rates and weather data for the use of smart (ET) controllers.
  • Learns to program smart (ET) controllers for water customers based on site-specific conditions.
  • Assists Licensed Irrigators to conduct outdoor water system inspections for city water customers.
  • Organizes work orders, equipment and supplies necessary to complete work assignments.
  • Assists with operations of the irrigation system for the Public Works facility.
  • Assists Licensed Irrigators in the design and installation of sprinkler systems for the City.
  • Notifies supervisor of inventory, parts, supplies, materials and equipment needs to complete work orders.
  • Learns to read and review plan designs and specifications.
  • Learns to conduct checkups of water usage to monitor compliance with City and State water conservation and irrigation regulations and ordinances.
  • Maintains records and database of irrigation system checkups and documents work activities and rainfall amounts.
Other Important Duties
  • Provides guidance to water customers on water conservation, ordinances, plants, and soil issues.
  • Travels to work sites, meetings, conferences and training.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of water conservation techniques and practices.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and related equipment, hardware and software to program computerized controllers for irrigation systems.
  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
  • Skill in completing work assignments.
  • Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns.
  • Skill in the use, operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, power tools, testing equipment and standard plumbing tools utilized in the installation, repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to operate standard irrigation systems.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Education, Experience, and Certifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D., and one (1) year irrigation system installation or repair experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May be required to obtain a Texas Irrigation License within one year of date of employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, MVR check and physical agility assessment.
  • State of Texas Class C Driver's License
