Job TitleIrrigation Technician
Job SummaryThe Irrigation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing irrigation systems to ensure proper water distribution and system efficiency. This role requires technical knowledge of irrigation components, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities- Install and assemble irrigation systems, including pipes, valves, sprinkler heads, drip systems, and controllers
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on irrigation systems
- Diagnose and repair system malfunctions, leaks, wiring issues, and controller problems
- Adjust sprinkler heads and system settings to optimize water coverage and efficiency
- Test backflow prevention devices and ensure compliance with local water regulations
- Read and interpret irrigation blueprints, layouts, and schematics
- Operate tools and equipment such as trenchers, pipe cutters, and wire locators
- Program and troubleshoot irrigation controllers (manual and smart systems)
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation
- Communicate with supervisors and clients regarding system performance and repair needs
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1–3 years of experience in irrigation installation or maintenance preferred
- Certification in irrigation technology (e.g., Irrigation Technician Certification) is a plus
Competencies:
- Knowledge of irrigation systems, hydraulics, and water management principles
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical components
- Basic understanding of plumbing and electrical systems
- Strong problem‑solving and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Frequent bending, kneeling, digging, and standing for extended periods
- Valid driver’s license may be required
- Outdoor work in residential, commercial, or agricultural settings
- May require early morning or seasonal overtime hours
- Exposure to dirt, noise, and varying weather conditions
