Under general supervision of the Public Safety Technical Services Manager, the Public Safety Equipment Technician I assists in providing initial troubleshooting and resolution to City of Frisco Police Emergency Equipment systems. This includes, but is not limited to, Motorola 800 MHz Radio end user equipment, emergency vehicle equipment, and other related equipment. Provides telephone help desk and/or direct assistance and training to assist users in the most effective use of the Police Emergency equipment.
The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description.
Responsibilities- Sets up, installs, upgrades, maintains, troubleshoots, and modifies emergency equipment and hardware and software for patrol vehicles.
- Removes and decommissions squads to make ready to transfer to other divisions and auction.
- Provides support to end users on a variety of issues from MDC, in car video and lighting systems.
- Analyzes and troubleshoots siren, emergency lighting and wiring, hardware, and computer peripheral failures.
- Documents, maintains, upgrades, or replaces emergency equipment hardware and software systems.
- Upgrades MDC software as required for emergency equipment operation.
- Installs and configures emergency equipment operating systems. Manages equipment problems to ensure timely and complete resolution.
- Works with end users and end user groups to evaluate and solve technical problems.
- Provides computer help desk and on-site assistance to end users in troubleshooting and resolving emergency police equipment, programs, utilization, or modification issues.
- Conducts research of technical materials, professional journals, publications and vendor materials to maintain and update knowledge of the information technology field, complete assigned or special assignments, review and recommend additional modifications, upgrades or new hardware to meet the needs and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the City of Frisco Police Department emergency equipment systems.
- May be required to work some evenings and weekends and to provide on-call support/assignment.
- May be required to attend meetings, conferences, and training.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
- Knowledge of hardware, software and peripheral equipment maintenance, repair, setup, modification and troubleshooting methods, practices, and procedures.
- Must be knowledgeable with Mobile Digital Computer (MDC) application concepts and practices.
- Knowledge of customer service and training methods and practices.
- Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
- Skill in responding, troubleshooting, and resolving technical automated management information systems issues over the telephone, electronically or on site.
- Skill in troubleshooting patrol vehicle electrical systems as related to emergency systems.
- Skill in implementing departmental procedures and objectives
- Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns.
- Skill in using power tools, meters, and small tools.
- High School Diploma and one (1) year of experience troubleshooting vehicle maintenance/repairs.
- EVT L-1 Law Enforcement Vehicle Installation Certification required.
- May be required to obtain additional applicable technology certifications.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, polygraph, psychological examination, physical agility test, criminal background check and MVR check.
- Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver’s License.
Job Requirements
- Work is performed in office and on-site environments with occasional outside or within equipment bay.
- May be subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions when loading, unloading, transporting, or installing automated Police Emergency Equipment Systems.
