Overview
The Town is seeking a Seasonal Maintenance Worker for the spring/summer/fall season to assist full-time crew members in the Horticulture Department. This is a temporary position (maximum 6 months).
Work includes mowing, string trimming, blowing off sidewalks and plazas, watering, planting, mulching, weeding and trash collection. Seasonal workers do not qualify for Town provided benefits such as paid time off, holiday pay, retirement or insurance benefits.

Monday through Friday
Labor Day to Memorial Day - 7:00am to 3:00pm
Memorial Day to Labor Day - 6:00am to 2:00pm
All new employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. A conditional offer of employment may then be made contingent upon the successful completion of a physical exam that includes alcohol and drug testing.

Responsibilities- Operate a weed eater along roadways, guardrails, rights-of-way, landscape areas, parks, around government buildings
- Weed and mulch landscape areas
- Operate mowers, blowers, edger and other equipment as needed
- Use all manner of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, pitch forks, hoses trowels, weed diggers, pruners, loppers, hand saws
- Help crew gather tools for the workday in the morning and return tools to storage areas at the end of the day
- Work with the designated crew in a cooperative manner
- Follow the instructions of the Horticulture Supervisor, The Senior Maintenance Worker, or the designated crew leader
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED - Experience:
Some horticulture experience preferred, but will provide training - Valid Driver's License
- General knowledge of hazards associated with landscape maintenance
- Ability to operate mower, weed eater, blower, hand tools and other landscape maintenance equipment
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time
- Ability to follow oral instructions as given by the supervisor or crew leader
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and other departments
- The position is subject to daily exposure of outside environmental conditions to include extreme heat, extreme cold, wind, rain, noise, insects and animals, traffic and other hazards, and cleaning chemicals. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided.
- This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Some heavy work requiring up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Requires walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, kneeling, standing, crouching and stooping
- Vocal communication is required for exchanging ideas and receiving orders; hearing to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
- Visual acuity is required for operation of machinery and motor vehicles and to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work
