Under general direction, the Supervisor of Electric Line Crew plans, directs, supervises, and participates in the work of electric line crews responsible for the construction, installation, maintenance, repair, and restoration of the Town's overhead and underground electrical distribution system. This position provides day-to-day leadership to line personnel, assigns and prioritizes work, ensures compliance with safety policies and applicable electrical standards, and assists with employee training and performance management.

The Supervisor performs skilled and technical electrical line work, including energized line work, troubleshooting power outages and system deficiencies, installing and maintaining transformers, conductors, insulators, cross arms, fuses, street lighting, traffic signals, and related equipment. The position operates specialized utility vehicles and equipment, including bucket trucks and digger derricks, and responds to emergency situations and power outages as needed to ensure the safe and reliable restoration of electrical service.

The position is responsible for promoting a safe, productive, and professional work environment while ensuring that assigned work is completed efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, departmental policies, and established safety standards. This is a working supervisory position that requires the ability to lead a crew while performing physically demanding electrical utility work in a variety of weather, terrain, and emergency conditions.

  • Install, maintain, and repair overhead and underground power transmission and distribution lines and related facilities.
  • Enforce rules/safety.
  • Prioritize work orders and assign them to different crews.
  • Supervise and participate in the work of crews.
  • Write performance reviews for employees.
  • Work on energized power lines.
  • Repair and maintain traffic signals.
  • Climb poles to replace or fix problem areas.
  • Operate bucket truck.
  • Install hardware, fuses, transformers and pulls wires.
  • Assemble and fasten cross-arm sets on poles.
  • Install, repair, and maintain street lights and traffic signals.
  • Maintain existing high and low voltage lines.
  • String and splice wire and fastens insulators on poles.
  • Use "hot" line equipment and tools.
  • Replace malfunctioning equipment on poles.
  • Install, repair, and maintain underground service.
  • Install transformers and other auxiliary equipment.
  • Ensure current and on-going safety training, maintenance of standards, equipment checks, and maintenance.
  • Operate a variety of utility vehicles and equipment including bucket truck, digger, boom, compressor, test equipment, etc.
  • Install and remove cross arms cutouts, lightning arresters, primary and secondary lines.
  • Troubleshoot low voltage, power outage, damaged connections and conductors.
  • Restore electrical service.
  • Assist in training subordinate line personnel.
  • Perform related tasks as required.
Experience

Required:

Four (4) years of work experience in electric line construction and maintenance Minimum

Education Requirements:

High School Diploma/GED; completion of lineman training program Preferred Qualifications: Journeyman Lineman Certification, Traffic Signal Certification, Substation Certification, CDL Class B, Flagger Certification, CPR Certification Qualifications
Knowledge
  • Methods, tools, and equipment used in the erection and maintenance of electrical lines
  • Occupational hazards connected with the work and safety precautions used by the department
