Head Resident- Summer Residential Program
Frostburg State University’s Upward Bound (UB) Program is seeking a HEAD RESIDENT (HR) for a federally-funded SUMMER RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM
. This program is designed to encourage and motivate qualified disadvantaged high school students to pursue post-secondary education and to develop skills and attitudes essential for success beyond high school. UB students attend the summer program for three or five weeks.
Upward Bound is seeking an individual who wants to make a difference in the lives of others.
The program is tentatively scheduled for June 14, 2026, through July 24, 2026. HR is required to attend and help lead staff training week scheduled for June 14, 2026, through June 18, 2026. Salary for the Head Resident is $3,000 plus room and board.
HEAD RESIDENT DUTIES INCLUDE- Designing, coordinating, and evaluating the Summer Residential Program
- Supervising approximately 30 students 6-8 Tutor/Counselors (TCs)
- Assisting in training of Tutor/Counselors
- Scheduling and conducting Staff Meetings and other trainings
- Supervising and developing Evening Activities and Field Trips
- Acting as a liaison between the residential and administrative staff
- Enforcing a safe, positive, and productive living and learning environment
- Be a positive role model for Upward Bound participants and to the Tutor/Counselors
- Discuss problems and concerns with the Director and/or Assistant Director
- Support TCs and maintain positive relationships/a cohesive team feeling with each other
- Have fun and enjoy the activities
- Demonstrate personal qualities of maturity, self-reliance, motivation, initiative, responsibility, self-esteem, and integrity
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills
- Ability to function as a team member and team leader
- Experience supervising youth
- Ability to assist students with academic, behavioral, and residential life adjustment issues
- Teaching, counseling, or high school supervisory related work experience
- Experience working with disadvantaged youth
- Supervisory experience
- Residential hall living experience
- Success in overcoming barriers similar to those of the Upward Bound students
