Youth Development
ASTAR is a statewide Ameri Corps program, which engages members in full time, part time (with stipend) and quarter/minimum time (education only) Ameri Corps members in service opportunities focusing on Capacity Building. ASTAR partners with higher education institutions including:
Frostburg State University, Hood College and programs within the Univeristy System of Maryland itional statewide parterns include but are not limited to:
Special Olympics Maryland, Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, SciTech2U, Frederick County Department Health and Human Services, Evergreen Heritage Center, Veterans Services, AACF/Life and Discovery and more. ASTAR members serve within their selected site and receive on site training and the opportunity to travel to in state trainings. Members become a part of a regional team - building capacity and identifying issues and being instrumental in implementing a solution to these issues.
Members develop individually as well and with the team during their year of service. Members position types and requirements vary.
Members serve directly with the selected service site focusing on a capacity buiding performance measure designed to help partnering agencies increase effectiveness, efficiency and/or scope of programming. Members positions and slot types vary as do the age and educational requirements.
