These positions may be filled for a six‑month seasonal period, but can vary due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated entry on duty:
March–July 2026. Actual wage varies by location. For specific wage information, reference the Federal Wage Schedules website (link provided).
Perform the full range of custodial work, including cleaning and servicing vault toilets, buildings, campgrounds, and emptying trash receptacles. May operate a government vehicle and provide general labor assistance in building, grounds, road, and trail maintenance. Uniformed positions; must respond to visitors politely.
Requirements- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Participation in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program required.
- Depending on location, government housing may be available.
- Depending on location, part‑time work schedules may be available.
- May be required to wear a uniform and comply with NPS uniform standards (uniform allowance provided).
- May be required to work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
- May be required to travel overnight away from home occasionally.
- May be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- May be required to complete training and operate a four‑wheel drive vehicle.
- If required to operate a government motor vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required. Must submit Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record and certified driving records from all states.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to perform work without more than normal supervision.
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
- Dexterity and safety awareness.
- Work practices, including keeping things neat, clean, and in order.
Screen‑out factor:
Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Candidates must describe in detail relevant experience and training in their application.
Experience, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other community organizations, is considered and can provide credit for qualifying experience.

EducationThere is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade positions.

Non‑Competitive Rehire EligibilityTemporary seasonal employees can maintain eligibility if they work no more than 1,040 hours within their service year. Exceeding the limit may result in loss of eligibility.
Physical EffortModerately heavy physical effort required: using ladders and scaffolds to clean walls, ceilings, windows; operating powered equipment; removing trash containers; occasionally lifting objects over 50 pounds.
Working ConditionsUsually indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Exposure to vibration from heavy equipment and cleaning solutions. Occasionally outdoors in inclement weather or extreme temperatures.
