Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department position at a small freestanding ER, requiring active TNCC, ENPC, and a minimum of 3 years of ED experience.

Details
  • Freestanding emergency department with 14 beds, including one dedicated trauma/resuscitation room
  • Treats a broad patient population from pediatrics to geriatrics, including STEMIs, strokes, traumas, codes, hospice, chest pain, respiratory, and other common ED presentations — facility treats and ships STEMIs, strokes, and traumas requiring admission
  • No Fast Track; patients typically go directly to a room where the assigned RN completes triage; a separate triage area is available during high-volume periods managed by the charge nurse
  • Holds are intermixed within the ED; dedicated safe/seclusion room available for psychiatric patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
  • Average daily patient volume of 40–50
  • Staffed 24/7 with one MD and a midlevel provider from 12:00 PM–10:00 PM
  • Charge RN on every shift (no patient assignment); house supervisor available by phone
  • CNA, unit clerk, and RT on each shift; RT manages respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators and performs ABGs, nebs, and EKGs
  • Space Lab monitors used; RNs are required to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
  • Imaging available on-site (X-ray, CT, MRI, PVL, ultrasound); imaging staff transport patients unless emergent or time-sensitive
  • Common drips include Levophed, Diltiazem, Narcotics, and Propofol
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:30 PM–8:00 AM
  • Schedule is built 6 weeks at a time using a modified self-scheduling model; travelers may sign up for available shifts with the schedule balanced thereafter
  • Weekend shifts required as needed
  • Holiday rotation required based on departmental need
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • No floating requirement

Requirements
  • Active  Compact RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
  • Current certifications required: BLS (AHA or ARC), ACLS (AHA or ARC), PALS (AHA or ARC), TNCC, and ENPC — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 3 years of ED nursing experience required
  • Ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
Requirements
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfort working in a small, close-knit department and willingness to ask questions
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; no local candidates accepted

  • Shared phlebotomy responsibilities — both RNs and phlebotomy staff draw labs
  • Department-specific orientation consists of one 8–12 hour shift in addition to general facility orientation
  • First‑time travelers are welcome to apply; standalone freestanding ER experience is not required
  • Any color scrubs accepted, provided they are clean and professional
  • No blocked scheduling or special scheduling requests will be accepted
  • Former permanent employees of the facility must have been separated for at least one year before being considered for a travel assignment
